National Recertification is required every 4 years. The NCBTMB requires 48 continuing education hours to renew your certification. Six of the 48 required continuing education hours must be in ethics. Of these 6 hours, at least 2 hours must address Standard V of the NCBTMB's Standards of Practice. This is the Roles and Boundaries Standard.

In addition to continuing education requirements, two hundred hours of “Hands-On” Work Experience in therapeutic massage and bodywork is mandatory during the 4 year recertification period.
